Harvesting Hope: Empowering Women with Hydroponic Agriculture for Sustainable Food Security.

Syria remains among the ten countries with the highest number of hungry people globally.

The World Food Programme (WFP) estimates that 12.9 million Syrians – more than half the population – are in the grip of hunger in 2024. Another 2.6 million are at risk of becoming food insecures.

Syrian women overwhelmingly report food insecurity as an urgent, pressing issue for their households, with many families resorting to negative strategies.
They  are increasingly  bearing the full burden of providing for their families with limited livelihood opportunities. About 22% of Syrian households are now headed by women; up from only 4% prior to the conflict.

In response to the pressing issue of food insecurity in conflict-affected regions like North Syria, we at AquaBloom are committed to tackling this challenge head-on. Our initiative offers a comprehensive solution by empowering women through hydroponic agriculture. By providing access to training, digital tools, and hydroponic kits, we enable women to cultivate nutritious food sustainably in their communities. This not only addresses immediate hunger concerns but also fosters environmental sustainability by utilizing locally available resources and promoting the cultivation of climate-resilient crops. Additionally, by empowering women as key agents of change in food production, we contribute to economic stability and women's empowerment, creating ripple effects of positive change throughout communities.
